Jewish weddings have always been full of meaning, music and community. But more and more couples are choosing to rework tradition and celebrate in a way that feels right for them. The result is a new wave of modern Jewish weddings that still honour the roots of the day but make room for personality, inclusivity and creativity.

At Sound With Us, we’ve been lucky to perform at many of these incredible weddings. We’ve seen couples mixing cultures, combining rituals and creating something fresh, all while keeping that joyful energy that makes Jewish weddings so unforgettable.

Here are some of the trends we’re seeing, loving and playing a big part in.

Sharing the Moment: Joint Tisch and Inclusive Ceremony Traditions

Traditionally the Tisch is a space for the groom and the men to gather, share blessings, and enjoy a bit of lively debate before the ceremony. These days more couples are choosing to hold a joint Tisch of singing, prayer and laughter. It becomes a moment for both sides to introspect and come together, bringing in more voices, joy and unity.

Other pre-ceremony traditions are being opened up too. During the Sheva Brachot, We’ve seen couples take turns circling one another as a way to reflect balance and mutual respect. The Bedeken, where the groom veils the bride, is being reimagined too, with both partners involved. These precious moments elevate as they feel more personal, thoughtful and connected.

One Big Hora, All the Energy

Jewish weddings are known for their dance sets, often split throughout the night. But a lot of couples now prefer one massive Hora set early on, bringing everyone to the dance floor in a full-on celebration, either after the ceremony, drinks reception or dinner.

It’s all about bringing the room together and setting the tone with energy, movement and music that lifts everyone up. For example, we’ve found that one perfectly-timed Hora moment, or one longer set followed by another mini-hora later on, paired with the right tunes and a high-energy band, gives just as much impact as multiple separate sets.

More Women, More Voices, More Freedom

These days, more couples are calling for gender equality within the traditional customs. With Hora sets now being done mixed-gendered in most secular weddings, more couples also book female celebrants, particularly in Reform Jewish weddings, same-sex Jewish weddings or interfaith weddings. Couples are also opting for female vocalists for their ceremony, a female DJ, or a female-lead Jewish band.

In traditional Orthodox settings, this may not be allowed, but today’s couples are doing things differently. At Sound With Us, we’re proud to support this shift. A female singer bringing the house down with a timeless anthem or leading the Jewish Hora dancing with a fierce vocal both powerful and memorable. Our line-ups are modern and represent current times and trends.

Sound With Us’ wedding showband line ups include talented vocalists and instrumentalists of all genders, and we tailor every performance to match the mood and energy of the day, i including surprise musical sets and singalongs during the meal, or a selection of unexpected speciality acts to add that wow factor.

Queer Jewish Weddings: Love Whom You Want To Love

We’ve been part of many LGBTQI+ Jewish weddings in recent years, and every single one has been packed with heart, joy and individuality. The couples we work with often want to keep some traditions, but make them their own. That might mean both partners breaking the glass, walking down the aisle together or crafting a ceremony that reflects their story.

Finding a band for a queer wedding who gets the vibe is so important. You want performers who bring warmth, openness and a real sense of connection. We bring that as standard. Some couples want an acoustic Jewish Klezmer band to start the celebration; others go straight in with an epic singalong that fills the room with love. However, you want it to sound, the energy should always feel authentic and alive.

Blending Cultures with Joy and Meaning

Interfaith and intercultural weddings are becoming more and more common. We’ve had the joy of performing at Jewish and Scottish or Jewish and Irish weddings where the Chuppah is joined by the traditional handfasting. The Jewish Hora then leads straight into a ceilidh – One moment people are floating on top of chairs, and then next – Spinning one another as they fly across the room in a jig of glory!

Blending a Jewish and Indian wedding – Truly needs to be seen to be believed! Imagine the bride and groom making a united Baraat entrance surrounded by their loved ones. They are engulfed in flowers and smoke to the sound of a Traditional Jewish Klezmer group, playing alongside Dohl drummers! Their Chuppah ceremony is preceded by the traditional Garland exchange, all leading up to an unforgettable evening of Hora meets Bollywood dancing.

Some couples bring together a chuppah ceremony with Christian readings, gospel music or cultural rituals from another heritage. These moments are not about compromise, they’re about unity. They reflect the full story of a couple’s life, background and family. And when the music captures that blend too, something really magical happens.

Music for Jewish Weddings That Sounds Like You

Your wedding music should feel like it’s yours. For some couples that means Klezmer music or Israeli folk music. For others it is a mix of timeless popular anthems with or Israeli Rock or Mizrahi music for that Middle Eastern flavour. We’ve even been asked to mash up Hava Nagila with Beyoncé, and honestly, it worked.

At Sound With Us, we help couples build an interaction that moves seamlessly from ceremony to dance floor. Every part of the day should sound like you and feel like you, from the first notes of the processional to the epic final song, ending the night on a high.

Looking Ahead: Modern, Meaningful and Joyful

The best thing about modern Jewish weddings is that there’s no single way to do them. Couples are choosing what feels true, mixing tradition with modern values, and creating celebrations that reflect who they are.

If you’re planning a Jewish wedding that breaks the mould, we’d love to be part of it.
